Feist is a Canadian musician and songwriter. She rose to international prominence as the lead singer of the Canadian alternative rock band The Secret Machines, who formed in 1993 and disbanded in 2006.
Feist released her first album "The Reminder" independently in 1997, and it earned her critical acclaim and commercial success. Critics praised Feist's lyrics, which drew from personal experience, as well as her rich voice and ability to play many instruments. She has collaborated with numerous other musicians on a number of releases including one self-titled EP with Justin Meldal-Johnsen (of the band Midlake) and a split EP with Fugazi's Ian Mackaye called "You Are All I See". In 2010 she released an album as a solo artist entitled "The Reminder"; she is currently working on a follow-up to "The Reminder" entitled "Songs for Sleepless Nights".
In 2007, Feist was named as one of the annual recipients of the JUNO Awards' Special Achievement Award. In 2008 she won a Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance for her song "The Bad In Each Other" from the soundtrack to the film Bridesmaids.
Feist is also a member of Broken Social Scene, a Canadian indie rock band formed in 1997 by members of the bands Stars, Metric, You Say Party! We Say Die!, You've Changed and Connan Mockasin.
Other members have included Leslie Feist from The Cocteau Twins, Justin Beiber from MySpace Music Hall Of Fame band Beluga Heights, Amy Millan from Stars and Leslie Feist from The Cocteau Twins.
In 2016 Feist released her eighth solo album, "Pleasure", which debuted at No. 1 on the Canadian Albums Chart and No. 2 on Billboard's Top Rock Albums Chart.
To date she has won nine Juno Awards from nineteen nominations. In 2017 she was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame at Fan Expo Canada 2017 in Toronto.
